I retained my first clients different than most others do. I was working full-time as VP for a computer service company at the time. The company went belly up to my surprise! Many of us were left with no job and now salaries owed to us. I decided to contact all the current customers of the company (many who had already paid for services like web development, internet marketing, etc. and were left hanging) and fulfill their contracts for free through my new company. They were thrilled to know that their projects would be completed and through this kind act and future word of mouth, I ended up with a full client base within 3 months time.

Tawnya, you're a woman after my own heart. I love how you have wrapped these great tips around such legendary icons as Snap, Crackle and Pop! I'm just emerging from the business planning phase, and your encouragement to crack the whip resonates with me. I am taking VA classes at Portland Community College and care for my granddaughter 3 days a week, but am committed to starting my business on a part time basis. I too am optimistic that my first client is just around the corner. Could I ask you how you got your first client? Did it take days, weeks or months to do that once you were actively working? I'm already seeing this is an industry filled with supportive professionals. Thanks!

Thank you Tawnya for always reaching out to us as we then don't feel so lonely :-) Yes, there are many a day when you feel like 'is this all worth it' as I haven't yet signed up my first client and then you have a 'wow' moment and realize that success may be just around the corner. Thank you for sharing. I love your articles, Arlene
